Founder Story

My name is Sebastian Munevar and I am the founder of

The Mad Mycologists, a locally-oriented, small business based in Saint Petersburg, Florida. My quest with mushrooms began during my study abroad in Pamplona, Spain in 2019. Here, I discovered what it was like to eat Oyster mushrooms for breakfast, lunch, and dinner for 6 months, all while fermenting kombucha in my closet. My Egyptian roommate, Sherif, couldn't stand the smell of it. It was through my process of ingredient sourcing for my kombucha that led me to discovering a deeper connection with mushrooms and their mycelium. Lion's Mane was my "gateway mushroom" so to speak. And it led me to my first internship at a mushroom farm that following Summer. After that Summer, I made mushrooms my life mission.

Our mission as a science-driven company is to produce the highest quality functional mushroom extracts for people to incorporate practically into their lifestyle & routine. We see our company and products as ever-evolving, adapting and infusing the new methods of extraction as we discover new information for how to capture the mushroom's essence. Eventually reaching their final form. Until then and even after, our goal will always be education; by sharing knowledge about integrating mushrooms into people's lives and asking one question:
